Overview
Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, India, is renowned for having one of the highest densities of Bengal tigers in the world. Spread over 1,536 square kilometers, it comprises a core zone of 716 square kilometers and a buffer zone of 820 square kilometers. The reserve is nestled in the Vindhya hills and features diverse landscapes, including sal forests, grasslands, and rocky hill ranges.¹
Key Features: - Tiger Population: The reserve is home to over 135 tigers as on 2022, with the Tala zone being the most popular for tiger sightings.
Safari Zones: The reserve has three main safari zones: Tala, Magdhi, and Khitauli, each offering unique experiences.
Wildlife: Apart from tigers, the reserve is inhabited by leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur, chital, sambar, and over 250 species of birds.
History: The reserve was declared a national park is dated back to 1968, and it was included in Project Tiger in 1972 and declared a tiger reserve in 1993.
Mythological Significance: The park's name is derived from the Bandhavgarh Fort, believed to have been given by Lord Rama to his brother Lakshmana.

The park remains open from October 15 to June 30, but it's closed during the monsoon season from July to September due to heavy rainfall.
